Special courts are Hybrid Criminal Tribunals that prosecute the most serious international crimes, such as genocide, war crimes, crimes against humanity, and the crime of aggression e.g. International Criminal Tribunal for Rwanda, Residue special court for Sierra Lione. Transitional justice is traditionally know to be attempts to bring peace by 'healing the community' for example through providing amnesty for alleged perpetrators or by the use of truth and conciliation commissions as opposed to litigious approaches
